2017 Carl Casper Car Show Coverage: Pro Street Cars and Late Model Performers

2017 Carl Casper Car Show Coverage: Pro Street Cars and Late Model Performers

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – The Pro Street stuff is resurgent and cool as ever. There was plenty of it on display at the 2017 Carl Casper Car Show. We’ve got examples in every style from current versions all the way back to late-80s and early-90s fare.  Blowers, tunnel rams, and Big-blocks are represented well among the fat tire faithful.  I have many flaws and one that pertains specifically to my contributions here is my distaste for photographing most late-model stuff and that is even more so at car shows.  I saw at least two newer Camaros with lambo doors sitting on what looked like 22” wheels or bigger.  Newer Mustangs and Challengers aren’t immune either.  Many of the displays for these cars have flashing, multi-colored lights which really mess with the camera too.  I generally steer clear of tacky, gaudy, or poorly-themed stuff.  Everyone can do their car their way.  I get that.  My preference is for cars showing good proportions and styling throughout.  Doesn’t make my way right or wrong….just my way.

This Fiero really represented the styling of that era.  The white Twin-turbo Camaro looked like it could be a runner except for its total lack of safety equipment.  We really liked the gray turbo’d Fox-body convertible.  Clean package and looks like it should move too.  Our friend Bill Stebbins Jr had his blown V coupe there and his red Firehawk.  The V puts an honest 659hp to the ground with bolt-ons and a quality E85 tune by WeaponX in Cincinnati.  Bill’s NA ‘Hawk puts out just shy of 400rwhp and is a super-clean example of the best LS 4th-gens.  I had a little fun with one of the V photos.  Finally, we couldn’t go without showing you a survivor Pontiac T1000 (essentially a Chevette).  When’s the last time you saw one of those…?

Enjoy.  More stuff coming such as muscle cars, race cars, and street rods.
