Bonneville 2016 Coverage: The Colorful World Of Lettering And Numbers On The Salt

One of the things I love about Bonneville is that the cars by and large are painted. Wraps have not really pervaded the salt and to me, that’s a great thing. As I was strolling through the staging lanes yesterday I thought that it would be cool to start snapping photos of the lettering and numbers on the cars I was seeing over the course of  the day. As you will see, the hand painted stuff on these cars is awesome. It ranges from full on art with gold leaf and the works to tattered, faded stuff that may have been laid on by the owner or someone in their family. There’s nothing wrong with either of those things and in fact, I think it adds to the charm of the whole place.

This isn’t a gallery about cars, about speed, or about engines. This is just about colors, creativity, and details. If you really want to challenge yourself and show off your Bonneville racer knowledge, name as many of these cars by number as you can.

Maybe I am just a weirdo, but I love checking stuff like this out. I did my best to skip the stuff that was pretty much straight up decals or standard block lettering. Nothing wrong with doing it that way but we’re celebrating artistic flare here, kids!
