Gallery: Awesome Ads For Trucks and Equipment Circa 1959 – Great American Gearhead History

While helping my pop clean out my late grandfather’s home we came across some really cool gearhead treasures that I was allowed to bring home and add to my collection of stuff. Two of the most prized pieces were copies of Construction Methods and Equipment magazine from 1959. These magazines are so cool (especially to me!) because they are absolutely jammed packed with bitchin’ ads for big trucks, cranes, bulldozers, engines, and all kinds of equipment that helped build this country during the massive construction boom of the 1950s and 1960s. The other thing that is wistfully cool is that virtually every ad and the product in it is for an American based company and an American made product. Call me nostalgic, a homer, or whatever, but that is great.

This is the first of what will be several different galleries from these magazines. In this collection of scans you will see ads touting Chevrolet’s “new” factory installed 4WD systems for light trucks (they brought the NAPCO stuff in house), an ad for Caterpillar touting a new diesel engine, a great Ford ad that shows every engine they make for applications from generators to dump trucks. GMC ads with stunning hand drawn art work, and some great sales brochures for 1954 Chevrolets that I slipped in there for fun!
