This 1960s Drag Racing Home Movie Is Flipping Awesome – Can You ID The Track For Us?

We love when people convert and post their old home movies from the drags onto YouTube because while the slick and highly produced professional films of the day were cool, nothing beats the “regular guy” perspective that these films bring to the table. They’re often shot at small tracks as well and this one is no exception in that regard although we do need your help on one thing…identifying the track! We watched this whole thing from end to end and unless we blinked and missed something, there’s not a lot of tell tales as to what track this is.  We’re positive that a reader out there knows what track it is and was probably sitting in the stands the day this was finished. We’re guessing it is east coast or southeast located because the door cars outnumber the dragsters by like a factor of 100.

The minimalism B/Street Roadster is our favorite car of the whole shooting match. Why? Those things were hot rods to the core. You’ll note the spindly roll bar around the otherwise open cockpit of the car, the high riding stance, and the look of something that is ready to rip someone’s face off. All of those things add up to why old school Street Roadsters are my favorites. That class has since been moved to Competition Eliminator where it has morphed into a way less cool version of it self with slick bodied cars and none of the personality or antics that the beam axles showed over the years at strips from coast to coast.

Your job is simple. Figure out what track this is and report on your findings in the comment section below. You’ll be educating all of us because we don’t have the answer and are dying to find out one way or the other!

It looks like a composite of several films. The license plates in part of the film look like late ’50s Nebraska . . . One of the cars has a sign on the side referencing Kansas.

yeah, saw it on facebook on the ‘topeka car scene’ community site. Closed long before my time but I the scenery is familiar.

Great video. Was that Art Arfons in the Green Monster? That looked to be one of the Pontiac SD tempest wagons? The guy that had the cash and trophy, was that a fashion statement back then to wear your underwear high out of your pants? Still a killer video!!!

That black roadster belonged to the Johnson Brothers out of Fargo, ND. They both drove and wrenched on the car. They raced at Gimli in Winnipeg, Minnesota Drag ways, Anoka, and Red River Valley Drag ways in Sabin, Minnesota and others. They lived in same neighborhood and every once in a while they would fire it up in the driveway. The car was called “Sweet Thang”. They later raced a 32 Bantam.

I don’t know where they are racing at but its 63 or after. At about 15 minutes in, Arnie The Farmers swiss cheese super duty and his Ms. B’s grocery getter are running.
