(Photos by Wes Allison) –  The beating heart of any drag race is the pit thrash that is constantly happening all over whatever facility you are racing at. No matter the size or the nature of the event there are people bleeding, sweating, and working their tails off to make the next round, fix broken stuff, or make their car faster. At the March Meet there are an incredible number of nitro burning cars and you know what that means, the thrash is that much more hardcore.

These are photos from the pits at Famoso and you’ll see all manner of stuff but overall hardcore hemi engines are the most prevalent and for good reason. Most of the really fast dragsters and funny car runs them. They are a far cry from the iron beasts of decades past but they make exponentially more power and shove cars to record elapsed times like Mike McIntire 5.54 nostalgia funny car clocking which is the quickest in March Meet history. How did it happen? The pit thrash baby!
