2017 NHRA Circle K Winternationals: Super Stock Action Photos From Pomona

2017 NHRA Circle K Winternationals: Super Stock Action Photos From Pomona

(Photos by Wes Allison) – Continuing to work through an awesome load of photo from the 2017 NHRA Circle K Winternationals, we continue with the super stock category. 50 years ago at the Winternationals super stockers showed up quicker and faster than ever as NHRA rules makers had allowed the machines to run any tire that fit in the wheel well of their car, they were allowed to run any camshaft that they wanted, and the class was officially recognized for cars made from 1963 to present. The other major change was the split of the cars into 10 different classes (now dozens and dozens) instead of simply stick and automatic cars. This was the birth of the super stock that we recognize today and boy is it one of our favorites.

With large tires, lots more liberal mechanical rules, and plenty of interesting cars and combos to watch there’s something for everyone here. Rear wheel drive converted econo-cars, wheel standing muscle cars, and great paint galore you know you are watching super stock when every car leaves with the front tire a foot off the ground and sometimes more.

We told you about Justin Lamb winning the class yesterday and that was great. Heck, every car in this collection of photos is great!
