2017 NHRA Springnationals Through The Lens of Charles Wickam – (Part 2)

2017 NHRA Springnationals Through The Lens of Charles Wickam – (Part 2)

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – We’re back with the second installment of awesome Charles Wickam photos from the 2017 NHRA Spring nationals that were held at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. Charles went though the nearly 2,000 photos he shot and shared his favorites from the bunch. We ran part one yesterday and we’re back with part two today.

This one includes some amazing images from the top fuel Harley class that runs at NHRA Mello Yello series national events when the Pro Stock motorcycles are not in competition and the fans have bene absolutely loving them. In particular there are two photos of legendary Japanese rider Tak Shigematsu that we think you will love. The first can be seen above (and in the gallery below). He’s leaving the starting line with his supercharged, nitro burning motorcycle and the front end’s up, the front wheel is cocked to the side and he’s getting it! The second image is shot from the side at night and the bike is in the same position but there are header flames belching out of the exhaust pipes.

You’ll see some great people photos as well. One in particular of Randi Lynn Shipp is awesome. She’s smiling in her helmet and we just love the moment that he captured there. Shipp’s better half Bo Butner captured his first pro stock national event win at Houston so it was a special weekend all around for that team.

We’re in the midst of the 2017 NHRA 4-Wide Nationals as you are reading this and David Whealon is shooting his brains out at Charlotte. We love the fact that these talented shooters share their work here on BangShift. Charles really did a nice job here!
