(Editor’s note: One week from now, we’ll be in Bowling Green at the Holley National Hot Rod Reunion bringing you live video and great photos. Were going to look back at some of 2012’s coverage over the next few days to get you excited!)The culmination of both the California Hot Rod Reunion and the National Hot Rod Reunion is the famed “Cacklefest”. The Cacklefest is a celebration of drag racing history in living form, with a large amount of cars being both static and push started on the drag strip at the same time. The vast majority of the car are running large percentages of nitro and their owners have ’em tuned to throw flames like crazy out of the zoomie pipes. Normally there are about twenty cars running at the same time making the kind of glorious racket that only old iron motors can make on nitro. Pure ground pounding thunder!

We were on the track, right in the thick of things shooting this gallery. There’s some neat stuff in here if we don’t say so ourselves and many famous cars from all over the country made the trip to Bowling Green, some even from as far as California. Don Garlits was the “key note” cackler again this year, rolling up the track last in his modern 392 hemi powered front engine slingshot. Gar had that baby sounding crisp and throwing header flames above the roll cage!

It was nice to see Bob Malone’s dragster picture as the “Lead Picture” at the top of this page…..a really neat guy, that would run 3 classes with the same Dragster…get to the track, see who the competition was…..then decide between gas, methanol or fuel…..just change to the appropriate jetting….hahaha….life was much simpler then. He is a great guy. Stop by and talk to him when you see him hanging around his pontiac powered FED:)

Skot, Thanks for the kind words. The reason we changed classes is to have the best advantage to win Bond Money, If the track had a $100.00 bond for a eliminator class, you would get $ 87.50. A $50.00 bond paid $ 37.50. If you won the $ 37.50 , it would pay all expences for the day.
