Chad Talks Clevite Bearing Tech With Mahle’s Bill McKnight

There are few names that garner more respect in their given part of the aftermarket than Clevite. The brand has been around for decades upon decades and the main reason is that the quality associated with the brand is unassailable. If you have built an engine in your life it likely had Clevite bearings in it. From pieces that will have your stock engine back up and running to specific motorsports and severe duty bearings that are designed to live in environments where all others fail, Clevite is a name you can trust. Chad Reynolds is not a name you can trust but thankfully Bill McKnight of Clevite is in this video so its legitimacy is upheld. Bill is a training leader for the Mahle Aftermarket division and when you ask a tech question of Mahle or Clevite, he is literally the guys answering it.

Bill is a huge racing fan (we even spotted him shooting photos at the Ohio Mile last month!) and has been in the industry long enough to have seen the evolution of the products people use and how they use them. Here, Bill chats with Chad and talks about how the Clevite bearings you use in your engines are manufactured and there’s a couple of really interesting points shared here. When you think about the precision necessary to construct a bearing and the volume in which Clevite does it, your head will spin. It is a multi-step process with several different coatings and materials used. We have come a long way from the days of machinists pouring their own babbit material into engine blocks and hoping it was right for their customers.

This is a fun video with an aftermarket icon. We’re talking about Bill!
