Drag Coverage: The Action and Pit Scene At Last Weekend’s NHRA Division 3 Event – Indy, Baby!

Drag Coverage: The Action and Pit Scene At Last Weekend’s NHRA Division 3 Event – Indy, Baby!

(Photos by Jacob Marshall) – If you are a hardcore sportsman drag racing fan there is no better place to spend a weekend than at an NHRA divisional or regional event. These are the places where the best of the best in NHRA sportsman drag racing gather to beat each other’s brains in on the racetrack and a multitude of categories that range from 15-second stockers to top dragster racers who are running 6.0s in the quarter mile. If you attend an event with the alcohol classes your ears will be assaulted and your eyes will see runs in the five second zone from 270-280mph depending on the class and the conditions.

Our man Jacob Marshall was on the scene at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis last weekend for the NHRA division 3 event and he sent us this dispatch of photos to share. The NHRA has 7 divisions throughout the USA and Canada and what’s interesting is that each of them has their own identity. Division 1 up here in New England has an incredible concentration of stock and super stock cars. Division 3 on the other hand is known for having some of the most insanely stout top sportsman and top dragster fields in the country.

It just so happens that you will see a bunch of photos concentrating on the stock ranks as well as the top sportsman and top dragster ranks in this collection of photos. Jacob’s photos are great and while the weather wasn’t the most cooperative in the world, division director Jay Hullinger and his staff ran a tight race and made the most use of the time that they go between the raindrops in Indy.

Check NHRA.com for the divisional calendar nearest you. You will not regret it!
