Drag Racing Test Action From Bradenton – Small Tires, Funny Cars, Sportsman Stuff

(Photos by Benoit Pigeon) – A little while back we showed you some great Pro Mod action from Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida which was part of the US Street Nationals event. Well we’re back with a mixed bag of sportsman action photos that range from killer pickup trucks to the one below to class style eliminator cars like the ’57 above to Alky funny cars and vehicles we’re not sure classes have been invented for yet. I’ll be headed to Bradenton Motorsports Park this weekend while Chad heads to Bakersfield, he for the March Meet and me for the NMRA season opener race. It will be both ends of the drag racing spectrum but two we’re glad to be on for sure.

We love photo collections like this because the cars are all so different and neat. Yes, it is possible to love stuff like this Chevy pickup truck and also enjoy the shreik of an alky funny car as well. This type of diversity is what makes the world of drag racing go ’round and if you cannot find a place for your own interests than you clearly are not looking hard enough! Let this random look at some of the coolest sportsman cars in the country reaffirm that.

Wow – is that the original “Shake, Rattle & Run” ’57?? The rear wheel well modifications & the custom made, vinyl top say that it is. It was an original fuelly car. The story I always heard was that Messino bought the car new and it was basically a race car all of it’s life. Chicago area, maybe? Hey Lohnes, this car is a story by itself

There was a story in Hot Rod or one of those rags back in the late ’70’s(?) about it.

That is the original shake, rattle and run. The car absolutely beautiful . nothing short of a show car that runs 200 mph. I love that it’s still a full out race car. And not just pushed on and off a trailer like a lot of the other cars from us30 (no big thing. That should be sold back to the original owners) . the car keeps getting faster and faster over the years . and keeps the memory of us30 alive .

Oh the stories surrounding this car! I wonder how many times this car has been in police impound, or their owners in prison? Supposedly the body on this car was stolen from fellow racers after the crashed the original. Not exactly role models these guys.
