In terms of the yearly Drag Week news cycle, we have entered the “wait list” portion of the program. What does that mean? Well there are lots of guys signed up and thrashing to get their cars finished and there are lots of guys on the wait list with cars finished hoping that others bail on the program. There’s also a third group of guys who aren’t on the list and are planning on just showing up to Tulsa to try and grab a spot if the field does not fill to capacity with either pre-registered runners or wait listers. Those three groups of people are all very important to the event and Hot Rod has published some information about what they’d like you to do if you know that you won’t make it, what you can do if you are on the list, and what you should do if you are just going to show and and try to get in.

If you remember, the computerized registration system lost count somewhere in the blitz of people signing up so instead of letting in the proper number of cars, it let 341 in. Hot Rod says that 50 people will need to ditch out before they start allowing wait listers into the field. That may be bad news for people deep on the list but history has shown that in this last week a lot of people wave the white flag of surrender so all hope is not lost.

The most impressive element of this whole situation is that 10 years ago, 41 cars showed up at KCIR to attempt to run the first Drag Week. Now there are literally 10x that amount trying to get a piece of the greatest street legal drag racing event in the world. That means you all either really love punishment or are some of the hardest core hot rodders and racers in the world. Option three is that you’re all mental but that kind of goes without saying.
