ECTA Ohio Mile Coverage: A Look At A Fast An Fun Weekend Speeding Down The Mile

(Photos by David Whealon – DWPhotos.net) – With the possibility that it would be the last meet held at the Ohio Mile in Wilmington, Ohio the ECTA faithful showed up in force to let it all hang out for 5,280 ft at a time last weekend. It was one of the biggest and busiest June meets in the Ohio Mile’s history with more than 130 competitors and 600+ runs made over the course of two racing days. Things got even better when the ECTA learned that they would be having a September meet after concerns that airport officials would be signing a deal with Amazon.com to more robustly use the property in the future.

Notable achievements at the meet were Daniel Oaks running 237mph on a Hayabusa with stock bodywork, Jack Donohue running 101mph in his Ford 8Ncredible tractor, and Alan Flora running 223mph coasting across the finish line in his Chevy Beretta. Great weather greeted the racers in Wilmington and while the winds were not exactly working in their favor, it seemed to us like virtually everyone had a great time.

Thanks to the preparation of the cars and the efficiency of the racers, along with the hard work of the ECTA volunteers the event was a really fun time for everyone involved. It was an awesome race for the same reasons that every land speed meet we have ever been too is great. There’s an amazing array of cars, motorcycles, and vehicles that defy description like steam powered streamliners and 100mph tractors.

It was the kind of weekend that gearheads love at the Ohio Mile. The kind of weekend that showcases the best in mechanical creativity and the things that have made motorsports great over the years. We had a blast and we’ll have another one in September. Be there!

That white gen 2 firebird might be seeing a just a little bit of lift. Makes not fun?? The variety of vehicles is what makes LSR so great. Imagine a circle track race where every entrant was different.

We are looking for a good high res. on track picture of bike #2016 to show our sponsors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Drew – Have you checked David Whealon’s website? It’s something like dwphotos.com in lower case. Anyhow, he’s great at taking pics of us guys in motion and his prices per print are, I think, very reasonable. The green and black S-10 is mine and notice that he got not only the truck but the smoke (the next run was clean with more boost added) and you can even see my noggin inside Mutt (the S-10s name). David doesn’t always get every vehicle but he makes a good try at it. BTW – taking pics of a vehicle at speed is NOT easy!

And super that you guys had a good time though it’s hard not to at an ECTA meet!

“What’s your name, Hoosier Daddy?” (Time of the Season, Yardbirds IIRC).

David did a great job of capturing my bike and I’m thrilled that there are photos of my one run. Then again, it’s pretty easy to get the photos when my top speed was 59! Still, not bad for a moped.

Wow, no mention of the winner of the Hot Rod Challenge last meet coming back and being the fastest car or truck on sight this meet almost 2mph faster.

There are numerous great alternatives out there for you. Chevy has a few models that you might need to look at. Investigate the Spark, Cruze, Sonic, or Malibu. These come extremely reasonable and amusing to drive. They additionally have some truly cool request highlights accessible.
