Flat Four No More: This VW Beetle Is Powered By A Chevy Inline Six And Is A Complete Frankenstein Hot Rod

Flat Four No More: This VW Beetle Is Powered By A Chevy Inline Six And Is A Complete Frankenstein Hot Rod

So there I was, trolling YouTube for something interesting and fun to show you on this Sunday and I stepped right into this video accidentally. The car is called “Flat Four No More” and it is a 1969 VW Beetle packing a Chevy inliner six cylinder engine up front. The car is rough stuff but we give the dude a lot of credit for sticking it together and while his estimation of 210hp may be optimistic out of the old engine, we do think that the car must scoot pretty well with all of the low end torque those engine produce and the car’s light weight.

Things to note include the 10 bolt rear end that has to have had the flanges drilled to make it “four lug” the claim that the car is pretty “rust free” when you can see daylight through the floor and the sweet cowl hood scoop. I’m totally NOT attacking this thing, those elements struck me as funny. Living in the world of gazillion dollar hot rods and customs, maybe we’re starting to forget our roots, which were based in cars like this built by guys with an idea and basic skills. I wish I could have found some sweet video of the VW on the strip or otherwise tearing around but as you will see by the burnout marks made by the car which the guy making the video shows, it will fry tires FOREVER.

The entertainment value of this one is high and the finish level of this one is low. We’ll take fun over beauty every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

“Needs a little finishing …” hahahahahahaha. I say just drive it like it is. Any more work into it will be more work wasted …
