Grumpy Jenkins’ 1974 Pro Stock Hauler To Hit The Auction Block In Harrisburg, PA Soon – What Will It Sell For?

Grumpy Jenkins’ 1974 Pro Stock Hauler To Hit The Auction Block In Harrisburg, PA Soon – What Will It Sell For?

We were tipped off to what should be the most interesting item (to BangShifters anyway) at the 2014 Mecum Harrisburg Auction that’s coming in a couple of weeks. This item is the 1974 Pro Stock race hauler of one Grumpy Jenkins. The truck is in magnificent, unrestored shape and looks like the cab and chassis rolled out of a Chevy factory yesterday. The hauler box is a little more weathered but not abused or junky. In fact, the idea that this truck is completely unrestored makes it even cooler because whoever buys it will essentially be slipping behind the wheel in the same lumbering hauler Jenkins did, not a dressed up version of the same one. This thing would rule for a nostalgia pro stock guy to use, although the sleeper area is surely smaller than the motorhomes that most everyone is used to now.

1974 was another of Jenkins’ great seasons in pro stock and we have no doubt that the truck was either provided or largely subsidized by Chevrolet. This was state of the art, high class living for the match racing pro stock driver of the early 1970s. There were still cars coming to run pro stock at events behind pickup trucks on open trailers, so if you had a rig like this you were surely somebody and the somebodies didn’t get any bigger than Da Grump at this time in history.

This is an exceptionally awesome truck with a level of history that few other original rigs that show up can ever claim to have. What do you think this big baby will go for?

Here’s Mecum’s specs on the truck:

– Bill Grumpy Jenkins 1974 Pro Stock Hauler
– One-of-a-kind
– Unrestored
– Designed by Jenkins, Ammon Smith Chevrolet and Oleynik Body Co.
– 427 CI engine

    way cool but …
how much would I pay for it ???
    not much
the tall deck 427 probably gets 8 miles per gallon
the original vinyl seat has the lumbar support of a rock

if this was joe racers it would sell for 6 grand

because it belonged to (the Grump) 20 grand

need to follow up on this to see what it sells for

I wonder what the GVW is, also air brakes ? or juice ? Prob juice. My insurance man won’t touch it – so specilty insurance would be on tap for my situation. I dunno . . .

    8 mpg maybe generous.

I’ll stick with my Hodges bed – late-model diesel for now.

that chev Makes a nice entrance though…

If this was a Sox & Martin hauler, it would be a whole ‘nother story!

      Right 440 6Pac?

Right. It wouldn’t be a POS Chevy. That would make it worth something even it was just another truck.

  3. speed racer

I`ve seen this truck up close. It is a true survivor. Its one of one that’s is surprising in great shape. Bill`s beat up tool box went for big bucks, something like 15-20k. What`s the truck worth ?? 50-80k??? I guess we`ll have to wait and see !!
