Hot Rod Drag Week Shootout Format And Details Announced – There’s A Cool Plot Twist Involved

I’ve been getting a ton of emails and messages asking about a rumored heads-up shootout at Drag Week and while I had some idea it was coming, I kept my yapper shut. Last night Freiburger posted the format and a ton of other information regarding the event which will take place on Saturday AFTER the conclusion of the actual Drag Week portion of the event. Why have a shootout? For starters it is a way to celebrate the 10th running of this insanity and also it is a way to see how the cars and competitors would do in a traditional drag race format. Oh, plus we wanted to be completely entertained by what can only be described as the greatest street car battle royale of all friggin’ time.

So the basic idea is this. EVERY CAR that finished Drag Week can race, no matter the class. Have a Daily Driver entry and you made it? Tell people you want to be in and you will be. Running Unlimited? Get on it, big boy. Every car will be put on a ladder based on the quickest elapsed time of the week. That means we will have all kinds of crazy combos of cars through the rounds. Cross class match ups will be the order of the day.

The plot twist is a good one. When the field gets down to eight cars, the four faster cars will be able to pick, dodgeball style who they race in the next round. Same goes when we have four left. The final two cars will run for the roses in the final. How cool is that? I just totally boiled it down, so read the rules and then hit the link below to see the full story from Hot Rod, including information on times and entry fees if you are coming to watch. It doesn’t cost a dime to enter and compete if you ran Drag Week. HEADS UP! BRING IT!

Gates open at 8, racing starts at 10. We will race until we have a winner, and then the track may be open to grudge matches until 5, listen to announcements at the track

All cars that completed Drag Week 2014 will be allowed to participate and are encouraged to do so. There is no charge for Drag Week 2014 competitors to participate.

The Heads-Up Shootout in no way affects the finishing positions of Drag Week.

Cars that competed in Naturally Aspirated classes during Drag Week may not add power adders for the Heads-Up Shootout

Cars must compete on the same size tires they ran during Drag Week.

All cars will be placed on a Sportsman ladder based on their quickest e.t. during Drag Week. Note this is not the average e.t., it’s the best e.t. of the week.

In the case of a tie in e.t., the higher mph will go higher on the ladder.

The ladder is based on an all-run format, regardless of the class each car ran in during Drag Week. Cars of mixed classes will end up running side by side.

All races will be on a Pro tree. We will run a Pro tree throughout Drag Week so you have five days to practice.

Once we get down to 8 cars, we will call all 8 onto the track and we’ll line up the 4 quickest cars on one side and the 4 slower cars on the other. Each of the quickest racers will get to choose which of the slower cars they want to race. The driver with the quickest e.t. gets to pick first, the second quickest picks second, and so on.

Once we are down to 4 cars, we will call all 4 onto the track and we’ll line up the 2 quickest cars on one side and the 2 slower cars on the other. Each of the quickest racers will get to choose which of the slower cars they want to race.
