Jonnie Lindberg Named The Driver Of Head Racing NHRA Nitro Funny Car For 2017!

Well here’s a big chunk of news few people in the drag racing world saw coming! Jonnie Lindberg the two time and defending NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car World Champion has been named as the driver for the Head Racing Toyota Camry NHRA nitro funny car. This news comes because Chad Head who was driving the car his dad owns and tunes wanted to concentrate more time on the family business, Head Inc. which is a large construction firm. Lindberg who has been racing and tuning his own car has had aspirations of being in a nitro burner for years and after getting a license in 2016 he was primed for an opportunity when this one came along.

There’s a link to the full story at NHRA.com below but for starters the team plans on running 16-18 races this year and starting their campaign at the 2017 Amalie Oil Gatornationals. We’re guessing that they will forego the western swing which happens later in the year.

Lindberg is a proven commodity behind the wheel. He was the first man to run an alcohol funny car into the 5.30 zone and the first to take one to speeds of over 270mph on a very cold day in Charlotte a couple of seasons ago. He’s been a hardcore racer for years and working with Head will be a different but welcome experience for him we’re sure.

This is a great development in a year where lots of young drivers are diving into the professional ranks. We’ll see how the newly formed tandem does!

Great news for the Swede….Really nice guy. Told him we woukd run a high 5.30s or low 5.40s at the phx test session. On Monday after the pro testing, he ran a 5.43, 269. Sunny day with temps in the low 80s.

To bad the team won’t be out west to start the season.

Manzo and the swede out of alcohol. Should be fun to watch TAFC this year.

Less than a month from Phx test week. Can’t wait.
