Last Blast: One More Collection Of Action Photos From Mt. Park Dragway

(Photos and words by Doug Gregory) – If you don’t appreciate altereds or dimes then this gallery isn’t for you.  We caught this trio of open-cockpit cars pitted together, in staging, and running the quick brackets.  You know we like the throwback styles so capturing these multiple times doing their thing was a no-brainer.  A lack of big wheelies (which you don’t want in these anyway) is easily made up with hefty burnouts and severely-wrinkled tires.

We’ll end our coverage from this event at Mt. Park Dragway with the S10 crowd.  I remember reading years ago in a drag racing magazine (perhaps BRUSA or SSDI) that the S10 could become to drag racing what the ’55 Chevy once was.  I’m not so sure about that, but over the years I’ve seen plenty of them and they are an easy platform to get moving quickly down track.  Most folks keep the stock suspension setup and made good success with that.  Other than shoe-horning a V-8 in there not much else requires heavy modification.  A relatively lightweight package with more than enough aftermarket support.  I won’t say it’s a modern-day ’55 Chevy replacement, but they definitely have a solid place in the game.

Enjoy.
