(Photos by Greg Rourke and Bob Chiluk) – Just when you thought it was safe to go outside….we’re back with a last blast of bad ass photos from the 60th running of the World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova Dragway Park in Illinois. Bob Chliuk and Greg Rourke really outdid themselves over the course of the weekend at this event and the work we have highlighted so far has been fantastic. Consider this their master stroke. This is a fully gallery of photos from the culmination of the show on Saturday night. Starting at dusk, as you work through the photos you’ll follow the action deep into the Illinois night as the field shrank and champions were crowned at the longest running drag racing in the universe. Not to sound all corny but this is magical stuff.
This race is one of the things that is truly cool about drag racing. Held at a historic track it draws cars from all over the country, pays a big purse, and packs the house year after year. We LOVE that. Bob and Greg killed it and this is some of their finest work….under the lights!
Promoters of various _HRA and _DRL and _MCA….dig the stands at Cordova. PACKED! And they all stayed until the last jet car ran! The concessions and tee shirt booths always had lines. They sold out of World Series shirts and caps. The racers were all having a blast. The joint was packed to the rafters with campers and motorhomes, and folks bringing in their own scaffolding to watch the races from. Prime RV spots were reserved a year in advance.
