Make Some 8-Second Runs Inside Peter Willie’s Vicious Four Speed 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda

Make Some 8-Second Runs Inside Peter Willie’s Vicious Four Speed 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda

There are not many people in the country running 8-second laps with a four speed in their cars but Peter Willie is one of those guys and this awesome video proves it. Those of your Hemi-o-philes out there may know Willie’s name because he has a SS/AH car that runs in the Pacific Northwest but this time we’re riding in his 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda. The buzz saw of an engine is that powers this car is a big block stroker Chrysler that is north of 550ci, tuned like a Swiss watch and as the Brits would say, it is “on song” for these runs down the famously quick Mission Raceway in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. You will see the car making multiple runs into the 8.70 zone with Willie working the shifter like a mad man, even pulling second a couple of times before the front end has come back to the ground. That’s an immediate sign that you are cooler than us. Pulling gears with the front end still up is an achievement we have not even come close to notching yet. Oh, the car has run a best of 8.62 with this setup.

We’re not sure what the eliminator the car was competing in was specifically but it was definitely some sort of dial-in affair because you can see after the first pass he has 8.71 on the window and in multiple angles you’ll see the handicapped start where he reels his competitor in like a dead carp at the top end of the track. This video is great because you get to see him drive “both ends” of the track, meaning that he leaves hard and also knows what to do on the top end. Great stuff for sure.

That class is BC Super Shifter. I have raced him in my 14 second ramp truck and watched him launch in a big wheelie from half track then blow past me at the finish line when I thought i’d win by 50 feet.

He has run that car a long time and certainly has it working well.
