When it comes to drag racing class names, few are less accurate than the nostalgia nitro funny car designation. We’re not taking a swing at the cars because we love the way they sound, the way they run, and the people who run them but there’s nothing nostalgic about them. The chassis, the engines, the fuel systems, and most recently the bodies have all taken a turn for the modern. It is the nature of drag racing and any type of racing for that matter. Recent body controversy has brought the class a bunch of attention and the NHRA had their tech guys on the property measuring bodies and taking notes for what may be upcoming rules regarding what’s good and what is not in the class.

The reality is that these are exciting race cars that put on one hell of a show. There were dozens of them at the March Meet and we have a cross section of the machines featured here. Elapsed times in the middle 5-second zone and speeds over 260mph keep people on their feet and crews busting ass to make the cars repeat those performances round after round.

Whether you are front and center for the action or think that these cars have lost the plot, you need to respect the way that they work and the volunteer crews that wrench on them with all of their heart and soul. Cool cars, cooler people!
