Ohio Mile Action Photos: More Coverage From The First ECTA Meet Of 2016!

Ohio Mile Action Photos: More Coverage From The First ECTA Meet Of 2016!

(Photos by David Whealon – DWPhotos.net) – We’re back with more action from the season opening ECTA land speed racing meet at the Ohio Mile. The racing at Wilmington Air Park was great and it was fast. The ECTA ran this as a three day event and that was good because while mother nature threatened, it was only Saturday that was lost to the weather. Racers attacked the course hard on Friday and Sunday and David Whealon attacked his camera hard on both of those days as well, providing us with these awesome photos.

It is always cool to see new equipment come in for the first meet of the year as well as stuff that has been re-powered, upgraded, or altered to be moved into a new category. The world of land speed racing is just as fluid as anything else in the fact that the cars are constantly changing, the competitors are constantly dreaming up new ideas, and performance s are always advancing.

As we mentioned yesterday we’re keeping motorcycle racer Guy Caputo in our thoughts as he was involved in a scary high speed crash. He’s in for a long haul of recovery but we’re thankful that he’s going to have the ability to recover. It is a dangerous business going very fast and the stringent safety controls that the ECTA demands are in place for a reason.

David’s pics are always the best! Great shot of me and Mutt at speed – pretty sure that was the 121 MPH run. It’s interesting to see how much the rubber at the bottom of the air dam deflects ’cause that stuff is STIFF. I suspect that it still does it’s job, though.

I always look best in those pics – from a distance and wearing a helmet!

More strong Ju-Ju for Guy – hope he’s doing and feeling better.

Wishing Guy a speedy recovery and his family the strength to see him through this long road ahead.
