American Powertrain Parting Shift: Hammering A Classic 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury With Max Wedge Power Down The Quarter Mile

American Powertrain Parting Shift: Hammering A Classic 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury With Max Wedge Power Down The Quarter Mile

While the short throw shifter was a great innovation that helped make speedy gear changes much easier, there’s something awesome about seeing a guy really get after it with a long throw, old school shifter in his car. That goes for double when the shifter is in a max wedge powered 1964 Plymouth Fury! This video was taken at the 2012 Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags where muscle cars that are as stock as tech knows battle down the quarter mile at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex. The event has been going on for years and it draws out some awesome cars. From factory supercharged Studebakers to hairy Chryslers like this, the event is supposed to be a great show for muscle car lovers.

This is not the quickest run we have ever posted and it is not the highest horsepower car we have ever shown but there is something really legit about this scene. We have absolutely nothing against race cars or guy who are running trick transmissions and pieces, but there is something really freaking cool about watching a guy do today what dudes were doing 50 years ago at their local strip on a week to week basis. The max wedge engine tends to get lost in the mix when we talk about hemis and other mills of the Chrysler ilk but it really was a great performer and held its own with all of the other blazers being turned out in Detroit.

This car looks awesome and the guy is not afraid to give it the oak if you know what we mean. This is a fun watch.
