Ride With Bobby Fazio As He Rips The Gears In His Super Stock L 289 Mustang – Grandma Steering Wheel Wrap And All

We have showed you video of Bobby Fazio’s Mustang in the past but since he recently posted this video of him beating up on his SS\L 289 Mustang running at Atco in New Jersey. This is a neat video because it shows what actual competition in super stock is like in the car. During eliminations, when two cars with different class designations on the window pull up, they run a handicapped style race. That’s the case here as Fazio is competing against Bob Cupp who runs a nice 327ci powered Chevelle. From watching his launch technique to seeing how he decides to drive the stripe at the top end, this run rules.

What also rules is the full-on grandma wrap around the steering wheel. The stocker is probably all old, thin, and cracked up and the grandma wrap was the cheapest way out. Either that or Fazio simply enjoys the supple feel of naugahyde on his palms as he drives the car. This is a judgement free zone so we’re not sure. As you would expect from such a small engine, it winds up to the moon to get the car moving down the track and Fazio is quick with the shift handle to knock through the gears about the time he makes it to the eighth mile. After the car goes into high, Fazio shifts his attention to the other lane and his opponent. It looks like he dumps at the finish line and by doing so, won the round.

Here’s a great look at how a successful super stock run is made!

Clutch less transmissions are not like shifting a 4 or 5 speed. The ones that do are gods.

Not that it maters the wheel is not stock to that year, mid-late 70’s Mustangs, Ford Trucks and Mavericks could get it too.

Haha the steering wheel was in the car when my dad purchased it about 30 years ago. It’s from a 70s mustang as stated.
