Road Trippin’: A Quick Return To Watt’s Repair & Auto Salvage Means More Parts, More Photos, And Picking Up A Pick Up

Road Trippin’: A Quick Return To Watt’s Repair & Auto Salvage Means More Parts, More Photos, And Picking Up A Pick Up

(Words and photos by Scott Liggett) – I certainly I had not planned to go back to Watt’s Repair & Auto Salvage so quickly, but this past weekend I was being dragged back to that fantastic yard by my friend, John McHarness.  We weren’t there to go crawling for needed parts, or seek out cool patinaed iron. We were there to pickup a pickup.

That blue 1971 C10 that greeted us right inside the gate had John thinking since he first saw it. He had to have it. So, we headed back early Saturday morning to get it. The story of picking up the car, getting it running, and driving it back wasn’t very dramatic. It was actually much easier than expected. We got the truck up and running so fast, that we had time to go wonder around the salvage again.
Watt’s is so big, we decided to go towards areas we haven’t seen before. John and I were not disappointed. We found all kinds of badass, classic iron. I think I said, “Wow, look at that one!” eleventy jillion times. There were hemi powered Chrysler New Yorkers, Ford and Chevy panel wagons, Dodge Power Wagons, Galaxies, Pontiacs, Finned Chevys, and much more. Check out the new gallery we added from that day and enjoy.

Such a cool place to still be in existence!!
I guess I’m blown away by how many cars seem to have ended up there from a mechanical failure vs. impact or rustout.
So hard for us to accept the fact that these were just OLD USED CARS at one point and mechanical issues could put it in the yard just like a six year old Hyundai today!

We are in farm country. Farmers do not throw anything away. They buy a new vehicle, the old one gets parked out back. It may have been a perfectly running vehicle at that time. Eventually, farms get sold and the derelict vehicles all get sold at auction, or sold off for scrap.

Check out the two Chrysler New Yorkers, both are complete with their Firedome hemis still under the hood.

I can only drool at the mostly rust-free bodies so unlike those here on the East Coast……

He has a nephew that has a yard about 6 or 7 miles south of his. His yard is a little smaller, but full of treasurers. Look for Johns\’s Muslce cars and Classic Auto. 3638 E Willow Rd, Wymore, Nebraska 68466. Tell him Mark sent ya.
