Sanctioned Street Fun: Ten Races From The Coffeyville Street Drags In Kansas!

From our perspective, the fact that the town of Coffeyville, Kansas even allowed something like a 1/8th mile drag race on the streets is pretty awesome, but that they let it happen with fans watching, in broad daylight and night time, with a starter between the cars and all just makes this all the much cooler. Urban Hillbilly Videos captured the action and came up with ten races that give you the broad spectrum of what was out there. It didn’t matter what was lined up…from a pretty much stock fourth-gen Pontiac Trans Am to a tail-wagging, pedaling like a mo’fo’ Malibu running against a Nissan GT-R, the races were tight and well-run. And if you think this is a one-time event, think again: Montgomery County District 1 Commissioner Ryan York posted on the Coffeyville Street Drags Facebook page: “Had a great time at the Coffeyville Street Drags. Based on a crowd of 1000 at 8 hrs the economic impact comes out to $66,000. Great job everyone. I hope to see another one in the near future. I might just have to dust off the Chevelle and take some of your money!”

Come on out, Commissioner. We are pretty sure that there are more than a few locals who’d like to see you try! That, folks, is government in action right there: finding a viable way to boost the local economy in a way that doesn’t punish the community!

i think events like this are great, especially for small towns with no tracks within a short driving distance
it’s something different and a great way to stimulate the local economy

guess its fun, until something sour happens and lawyers get called in, which is probably why many areas will not do this

    but…
maybe that wont be the case and we can start seeing more of these type of events

heck, block off four turns, make it like an oval and have it 🙂
