Surprise! This 1970 Challenger Looks Like A Concours Resto But It Runs Low 11s!

Surprise! This 1970 Challenger Looks Like A Concours Resto But It Runs Low 11s!

So sometimes I get to twirl the electronic pen for the pages of Mopar Muscle magazine and some of the car features that I get to do are pretty sweet. Take this 1970 Challenger for example. The car has been restored to literally the highest standards in the industry but it has also been tweaked like any good muscle car should be. This one looks like it should be collecting show awards and then run 13s but the reality is that it collects show awards and runs bottom 11s with the same tires on it you see pictured here.

Making the story doubly sweet is that the car belongs to a plumber from Massachusetts who was on track to have a disaster on his hands when some of the guys he had hired to work with him on the restoration were asleep at the switch and all hope was seemingly gone. Obviously things took a turn for the awesome and this car was completed to an astoundingly high standards. It gets used, it gets beaten, and it has been drag raced. That’s pretty BangShifty to us.

The story of how the owner came to have the car in the first place is a good one involving trade school, a bachelor party, and some cash. Cool car, cool owner, check it out!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Brian – I didn’t know you also wrote for Hot Rod Magazine which I have been reading for nearly 60 years. This is one hell of a “Q Car” and the way it hides its many upgrades in plain sight is just amazing, I think that if Kowalski was driving this baby in Vanishing Point he would have stuck to the speed limit and not crashed into those bulldozers at the end….
