The Devil’s Dart: This ProCharged Big Block Chrysler Powered ’69 Is A Street Driven Grudge Killer

The Devil’s Dart: This ProCharged Big Block Chrysler Powered ’69 Is A Street Driven Grudge Killer

We’ve been talking about grudge racing a lot lately and that’s because it is a crazy popular and fast growing segment in the world of drag racing. Ron Bookman’s Dart is a prime example of why people love this type of racing. The cars are evil looking, they make big power, they have the right attitude, and they are not belly buttons. In the case of Bookman’s car, he even cruises this baby on the street very often.

I had the chance to write this feature for Mopar Muscle Magazine and it is a pretty nasty piece. There are few cars in Eastern Virginia that can match it for raw power and streetable miles. Ron no-time races the car because he has the most fun in that type of situation at the track. He’s a good natured guy who isn’t much of a trash talker but he takes a lot of pleasure in laying guys out (on the track) who like to run their mouths. His ProCharged big block Chrysler motor is the weapon he uses to deal those blows.

The story of this car is fun. He’s owned it for decades and it has lived through several different iterations from bracket racer to big tire pro street to grudge bomber as it is now. The car has been 8.02 off the throttle with the parachutes out during testing a few years ago. What does it run on a clean pass? That I could hot pry out of him with a crowbar.
