Hey look, it is us fawning over another Les Mayhew video! This is a real shocker because we do it every time the guy releases something. Why? We do it because the stuff is just fantastic. It is not about tricks, it is not about clever editing, it is about a guy who understands what he is looking at and knows how to put it together to tell a story. This is one of the coolest match races in the country. It is an epic show. Pro Mods taking on freaking AA/FAs? They have been doing this for a few seasons at Northstar Dragway in Denton, Texas and each year the cars get faster and the crowds get bigger. Three second eighth mile elapsed times were falling out of the sky and the two disparate combos were about as evenly matched as they could possibly be.

Perhaps the best element of Les’s work is that he films and presents these events in the right context. His videos from places like the US Nationals feel like they are being shot at Indy. They have the right tone and visually you understand the whole ethos of the race. This race is shot and framed in a way that makes it seem you are there on  a hot Texas night surrounded by bad ass cars that are all on the knife edge of control. The music selections and the way that he uses those songs rule the school.

Adding in the footage of the national anthem sky diver up in the plane was another piece of great work. There was totally an element to that which had us thinking, “This crazy bastard is going to jump out of a plane!” As usual we’re going full fan boy over this stuff and we don’t think that we’re alone in our sentiment.

Les Mayhew is making some of the best, if not the best drag racing short films out there today.
