This View Of Andy Jensen’s 3.87 Pro Mod Lap At Maryland International Raceway Gives You An Idea About How Violent These Things Are

Andy Jensen is like the JD Salinger of pro modified. The guy is normally so tied up with his successful engine building business in Pennsylvania that he has a hard time pulling himself away to go racing, but when he actually does go racing it rules. We’re talking about a guy who had a legit six second street legal car before virtually anyone did and long before Drag Week existed. He’s got this blue pro mod Camaro with a small block engine that wears splayed valve heads and a single turbo that makes horsepower and ets like cars with twice as many inches and twice as many turbos. This video is proof.

Taken at the notoriously hard hooking and notoriously fast Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, we seen Andy Jensen make a 3.87 eighth mile shot in his pro mod and while there’s nothing revolutionary or even overtly creative about how it is shot, the video is still breathtaking. Why? Because this is a piece of footage that gives you a really honest look at what it is like to stand next to a car capable of pulling 60′ times a bunch quicker than one second. It is one thing to see it from the stands, but it is totally another to be stationed right next to the monster. It literally launches like there is a JATO rocket strapped to its backside and we’re sure Andy was smiling the whole way.

We have an unnatural love for pro mods around here. They were, are, and forever will be one of the great drag racing classes whether the distance is an eighth or a quarter of a mile. Today’s scene has plenty of room for both and that means that racers and fans have a lot of opportunities to see cars like these and that’s a real positive for the class. This 3.87 lap would likely translate to a very, very low six second shot or perhaps a high five second number if the thing was humping hard enough on the top end of the race track and knowing Andy, it would be pulling like a pissed off train up on the big end.

This is one of those simple videos that says a thousands words and two of them are Holy S#$t.
