Watch 100% Blind Alcohol Funny Car Crew Chief Jay Blake Prepare And Pull An Engine Alone

(By Jason Mazzotta) – Most know of the incredible and inspiring story of Jay Blake, the Massachusetts based crew chief and car owner of the Follow A Dream/Permatex NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car, but most are not lucky enough to be able to experience his incredible life on a day to day basis as most only know and see him at the racetrack. In 1997, Blake was working as a head mechanic at a transportation company when a tire exploded in his face and left him close to death. After making a strong recovery he was left completely blind, and with no taste or smell; but he continued on with his passion for drag racing and went on to form a Top Alcohol Funny Car team.

The team has enjoyed success over the years finishing in the top 10 in national and regional standings as well as winning races, such as the Gatornationals and World Finals, as well as other national and regional events. To see Blake work at the track with his crew by his side is always a motivational and wonderful sight, but to see him work on his car during the week by himself is a breathtaking visual. In this time-lapse video, you can see Blake feeling his way around the car and shop he knows so well. He prepares the hemi engine for removal from the funny car, and then removes the engine out of the car by himself, after fetching the engine crane from outside. Blake has inspired so many over the last decade with his words and actions, and he continues to do so with a smile on his face.
