Watch a Drag Race Engine Make a Dyno Pull From 8,000 RPM UP!

Watch a Drag Race Engine Make a Dyno Pull From 8,000 RPM UP!

There’s nothing like the sound of a V8 engine at about 10,000 RPM. It is the kind of music that we love to listen to. Yeah, Formula One engines spin themselves harder than that but let’s be honest. Those things sound like air tools from Hell. A 480ci V8 at ten grand doesn’t sound like an air tool, it sounds like a buzz saw capable of ripping through anything in its path.

When you watch this, realize that the first 1:10 of the 1:30 video is of the engine idling. The pull itself is very short but damn does it sound awesome. The engine jumps from idle to about eight grand instantly and then quickly climbs to over 10,000 for a faint second. This is a motor destined for an NHRA Competition Eliminator car, specifically a B/AA (B-altered automatic). Most cars in this class are recently retired Pro Stockers with more weight hung on them and automatic transmissions. The engine apparently made 1,415 naturally aspirated horsepower at 9,200RPM. OOGA BOOGA!

Press play to listen to the sweet music of a 10,000RPM 480ci V8!
