A while back we featured the evil, black, turbocharged, Chrysler powered monster known as Cedric Beaulieu’s Chrysler LeBaron. If you missed the full feature CLICK RIGHT HERE TO SEE IT ALL. This thing makes huge power and will run down in the deep sixes through the quarter mile timing trap at the drags. Like all short wheelbase door cars, they can get pretty interesting at speed and when you see this video you’ll get what we’re talking about because Cedric literally has to drive for his life and the life of the car when it decided that straight was no longer the direction to head in at full speed.
The drag strip that Cedric is running on is in Mirabel Quebec, Canada and it is a pretty humble looking place. That’s not to say we think it is low quality, but it ain’t the Texas Motorplex. You’ll see a head on of the two cars leaving and the other video was shot from the starting line area looking down track.
Cedric’s problems begin quickly and violently at the end of the run. When you watch the video slow it down and see how close he came to the timing block in the center of the track as the car was trying desperately get over in that other lane. He he struck the block the run would be disallowed but since he passed in the shutdown area and then switched over it is all good. Ironically that’s where things get very busy for Cedric.
The car starts to pitch and yaw in different directions until at one point Cedric chucks the parachutes out of it and you’d think that those could steady the car into a straight line right quick. Oddly the parachutes did not immediately settle the car and in it actually got up on two wheels and he saved it.
Beaulieu drove and drove and drove, ultimately saving his own bacon and the race car that his dad scratch built while he was still a kid. This is skill, determination, and lots of runs all working together. Completely amazing!
