When I first started announcing drag racing half a lifetime ago, I was the test and tune night guy. Frankly, there are days that I long for that job again because everyone completely underestimates the entertainment value and fun of a test and tune night. It is so unpredictable and great because you have no idea who is coming through the gate, you have no idea what the next pair will be, and you have no idea what the hell is going to be happening thirty seconds ahead in the future. It is greatness and this video which was shot at a test and tune night at New England Dragway proves it. We saw stuff like this happen all the time. Guys with total junk looking stuff would show up and haul ass. We’d laugh, the losers would cry, and we’d beg them to come back and do it again next week.

The star of this program is a hideous looking Eagle Summit. We’re not going to spend much time on the looks of the thing because those aren’t the story. The story lies in the fact that this is an AWD 4G63 powered hot rod that had been tuned up long before that summer night that it was swallowing everything that showed up against it at the track whole. First you will see it eat up a Mustang and secondly you will see it beat a Supra so badly that the owner of the Supra has no choice but to limp his junk down the track and feign injury to keep the humiliation level low.

The 4G63 is a 2.0L four banger that is notorious for its hot rod potential. We have seen these engines in dragsters running 6s and we have seen them in bulbous mom wagons like this kicking ass. They are stupid strong engines and they’ll swallow a LOT of boost. This car runs down in the 12s which is blindingly fast and it looks like it runs 18s but there’s more on the table as the comments on the video indicate that the car has not found its way into the 11s. The best part? It still looks like something that would repel women at 500 feet. Sleepers FTW!
