Racers Monte Green and Don Kritzky were involved in one of the scariest double top dragster crashes in recent memory yesterday during the NHRA race in Brainerd, Minnesota. As the cars were flying down the track, Green’s car got loose and up on two wheels. Initially it looked as though green made an incredible save at speed when the car came down on all four tires but it rotated sideways and flipped onto its side.

In the other lane Don Kritzky was doing all that he could to miss Green’s car and in the process went into own sickening roll that turned into the more violent of the two wrecks. Kritzky suffered a broken pelvis in the crash and as you will see in the video, it could have been much worse than that. The NHRA safety safari responded enmasse to both cars at the same time and once again showed their professionalism in a situation that surely tested all of their resources. One car wrecks are bad enough but when you put two cars into play, things become even harder to manage. Communication and leadership is paramount in that situation and we can tell you from personal experience that the safety safari has both in spades.

We’re hoping for a speedy recovery from both drivers and once again, the stringent chassis building standards maintained by NHRA and SFI protected both of these drivers to the best of their ability and will allow both to (eventually) race another day. A broken pelvis is a very serious injury, but pales in comparison to the possible outcomes from this mess.
