Why Testing Is Important: Watch This Holden Drift The Dragstrip Before Settling Down To Run Sevens!

Shakedown testing is vital to a race car. The team and the driver need to know how the animal that they built will behave once the loud pedal gets it’s first solid kicking. Part of the big pushes to have drag racing at the tracks is because if something goes haywire, there is a safety crew and medics available in case things go horribly wrong. But how often does that happen? Enough that there are medics, fire personnel and more on standby at credible tracks, and it’s because even though a car is built to be predictable, nothing is completely foolproof. Note the silver Holden in the picture. If you’re cocky enough to have a plate that straight-up says “RIP 7S”, chances are pretty good that this isn’t your first run in the car. So how did this Holden get so sideways? That isn’t so clear…there is no explanation from the video, but we suspect that water or some other liquid might have been on the track, because the back end goes out quickly and effortlessly. Either way, the driver deserves recognition for hanging on and keeping the car off of the wall while his hindquarters did their best to clamp down onto the racing seat!
