Tenderized Turkey: This 1969 Hemi Charger Daytona Road Test On The Mount Tremblant Course In Canada Is All Time! This Hemi Gets Worked

Consider this the greatest muscle car road test video ever, even if your don’t know what the guy is saying. We got tipped off to this awesome film form 1969 by BangShift photo contributor Benoit Pigeon who happened across it by happy coincidence on Facebook. Benoit is a French speaker so he was right at home. I barely made it out of 10th grade so me? Not so much. The good news is that even though I don’t speak or understand a lick of French, I was spellbound by this video. The reason is simple. It is the only time you will ever see a 100% stock 1969 Hemi Charger Daytona driven to the edge of its life on a road course. Look at the lead photo from cripes sakes! That’s tire smoke pluming off of the front left as the car is desperately attempting to respond to the commands test driver Jacques Duval is giving it. These guys do not spare the rod with this car. It is hammered from the start to the finish. You’ll see plenty of outside car footage of it being worked and plenty of inside footage where the hemi engine sound and the amount of steering that are going on will both make you smile.

We have no idea why these guys picked a road course as challenging as Mount Tremblant to test the car out on and we halfway bet that they didn’t tell Chrysler that this was the plan because if it was we bet they would have never loaned the car. Had it been a drag strip or a circle track I think they would have been into it because the car was designed to run a banked circle track in race form and with all that hemi power under the hood, good strip numbers were expected anyway, but those weren’t in the cards. Instead (and thankfully!) you’ll see this car just getting used in ways we have never seen a Charger Daytona ever used before. At the time it was “just a car” and Chrysler couldn’t get people to buy them so we’re sure more people than ever got them to drive outside of the normal media channels.

It always stuns us when video like this survives the decades but here we are with another magical clip. Watch this and smile. You’ll love it. Abusive treatment to hot cars is a universal language.

If this is the same film clip I heard/read about years back, then here’s thw added info I have. The driver lapped the track once in it to see how it wouls handle. The film footage is laps 2 and 3. Many times he held the Torqueflite in 2nd gear well past redline.

Great footage, but the driver is not an accomplished road racer. He missed virtually all the apexes but spent a lot of energy sliding and smoking the tires…
