Another Track Is Shutting Down: Miller Motorsports Park In Utah Is Closing Up Shop

We have learned through Autoblog that Miller Motorsports Park’s 2015 season will be the last, and that the track will cease operations at the end of October 2015. The track, which opened in 2006 to fanfare, has seen a decline of series over the years, however it appears that nobody, including the local government, were prepared for the announcement, which was made via a released statement from the Larry H. Miller Group. The statement, which was posted to Miller Motorsports Park’s website read:

(May 8, 2015) – The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies has elected not to renew its lease with Tooele County and will cease operation of Miller Motorsports Park at the end of the racing season on October 31, 2015. A full schedule of racing events, driving schools, public karting and group activities will be held this summer as planned.

Gail Miller, owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, stated: “On behalf of my family, I would like to thank all of those who have supported the track over the years, both locally and worldwide, for their enthusiasm and use of the facility.”

Nobody is certain as to why the group decided to close the facility down, but recent discussions about utilizing a parcel of land near the track for a prison facility might have played a role. But for now, once this year’s season is run through, what started out as Larry Miller’s private playground will be closed up.

Is it just me or does the smell of tax concession waft out of this story? Wealthy people don’t just drop 85 million unless there’s something behind it. And It can’t be the excuse of “It’s the Mormons.”

Can’t wait to see how this plays out.

It’s easy to drop that kind of money when you have a lot more from where that came.

Wow that sucks….. I went there for their Mustang driving school and learned a TON! Driving the WHOLE track the second day was an amazing experience!

The cities complain about street racing, but all the tracks are closing What’s a person to do

The Park wasn’t a success. The FIM Superbike World Championship, American Le Mans Series and the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series all left.between 2010 and 2012.

Surprised the Park as stayed open as long as it has. Probably, the lease is up.
