Awesome Old Video: Ride Along With Aussie Racing Legend Norm Beechey In A 1964 Holden As He Hauls Ass While Banging Gears On The Column!

Norm Beechey was the 1965 and 1970 Australian Touring Car champ and he is a V8 Supercar hall of famer. Down under, the guy is one of the greats of all time. When you watch this video and see Beechey man handling a 1964 EH Holden around the race track in Sandown with a huge steering wheel and banging gears with a freaking column shifted transmission, you’ll agree that the dude is totally fantastic behind the wheel.

These old school road racing guys on tires that are smaller than modern spares, in cars with not near the horsepower of their modern counterparts, and with suspension technology that’s not even close to what we see on modern cars were a special breed. They weren’t apt to sit and bitch about the setup of a car as much as they were apt to adapt their driving style to whatever the car wanted to do in order to be faster than the other guy. “Stormin’ Norman” Beechey was one of the guys who did this better than anyone in 1965 and 1970. That’s hella cool in our book and so isn’t this video of him hard at work in the Holden!

good footage, pity about the add – on sound….either that or a motor that doesn’t change pitch no matter what cog its in…believe me, old holden 6’s scream when you give them hell!
