Bad News: Skip Barber Racing School Files For Bankruptcy – Huge Debts On The Books

The Skip Barber Racing School has educated thousands and thousands of driving enthusiasts over the years how to be better drivers, how to be race drivers, and frankly how to be better race drivers. Well, TheDrive.com is reporting and has published documents indicating that the school has filed for bankruptcy and boy are they in a deep financial hole. They owe multiple race tracks hundreds of thousands of dollars and they owe Lime Rock Park, the track that Skip Barber actually OWNS over a million bucks. Something we learned in the Drive story is the fact that Barber sold out of the school in the late 1990s so other than his name, he’s no longer tied to that business.

It is kind of a sad end to a driving school that has been in business for 42 years. The genesis of the school came when Barber retired from the rigors of racing full time and wanted to impart his knowledge into aspiring race drivers or people who simply wanted the experience of attacking a race course the right way. We always wanted to hop into one of their open wheel cars which have had power from Mazda, Mopar, and other makes over the years. The combo of factory four banger engines, light cars with full race suspensions proved to be the hot ticket for the school over the span of many years.

The story on TheDrive.com is a good read and you should check it out. We’re sad to see the long running school in tough shape.

Great, I’m sure LimeRock will be up for sale now to some scumbag developer who wants to build a gated bird sanctuary or high end condos.

It’s Connecticut. They’ll turn it into section 8 housing for scumbags and illegal immigrants.

Really I’m not surprised they’re bankrupt. When you buy fleets of corvette’s and vipers every year what do you expect to happen?

Clearly the above posters are enable to comprehend that Skip Barber no longer owns any part of the racing school. He owns LimeRock in some fashion and is not part of the school.
