BangShift What’s In The Shop Series: We Visit The Legendary Roadster Shop

BangShift What’s In The Shop Series: We Visit The Legendary Roadster Shop

(Words and photos by Bob Chiluk) – With the BangShift Windy City in the grips of middle winter and outdoor car stuff non existant,we venture out in search for more of our “What’s in the shop”series. We hook up our jumper cables and tire chains and hope our junk cranks over to head out in search of thrashing going on in shops around here for our car season that gets under way before we know it.

We put the rig in four wheel drive, and put a few flash cubes in our picture taking machine and headed out to The Roadster Shop in Mundelein Illinois just north west of Chicago. Owner Neal and sons Phil and Jeremy Gerber have steered the business since 2004 providing enthusiasts and fellow builders with chassis ,parts, and complete turn key builds. RS is no stranger in the car building world with projects appearing on car covers around the globe and customers driving products in just about any auto cross , road course and show circuit imaginable.

From the beginnings of the father and sons trio back in 2004 , the Roadster Shop machine hums along in their fifty thousand square foot digs employing more than fifty people. The demand for their products had them recently erect a new twenty thousand square foot state of the art facility dedicated to their chassis side of the business. CNC machines , laser scanning and welds like stacks of dimes that make their frames rolling art that is almost a shame to put a body on them. The designers, engineers and fabricators are top notch industry pros that can do one off parts or a complete SEMA build for you. Thanks guys for giving us keys to the joint to spend the afternoon.
