Best of 2016: BoatShift: This Collection Of Historic Hot Rod Boats At Disney’s Boathouse Blew Us Out Of The Water

So back in December, Kerri and I took the boys to Disney World for a few days of rest and relaxation as well as rides. My wife loves the place, my kids love the place, and since I’m allowed to do THIS for a living, I’m more than happy to go wherever they want to do and hang out. Over the course of our travels we went to a restaurant called “The Boathouse” and while the food was spectacular the collection of boats they have in a small marina behind the place is absolutely epic. I’m not a “boat guy” per se. I don’t know much about them, I am not interested an ocean voyage, and it just isn’t a topic I think about a lot. I am however a “cool stuff guy” and my God is this some cool stuff. We were told that the collection you will see below is worth something like $8-million bucks.

From the mighty Allison powered racing boat to the amazing and very rare 1950s styled boats, the Chris Craft creations, and the freaks that look like they’d kill you in a heartbeat the collection is full of historic, whimsical, weird, and awesome stuff. Thank fully, all of the boats have placards with their information on them because I’d be lying if I said I knew a lick about any of them before reading.

The other thing you can do at the Boathouse is take a ride in a real Amphicar on the water. I’ll be telling you and showing you more about that tomorrow. Hey, when else are you ever going to have the chance, right?

I think you are going to love these boats. My son Tom and I spend far too long looking at this junk and wondering how much each was worth. The answer? A hell of a lot more than we could imagine!

About 40 minutes North of Disney is the town of Tavares Fl. They have a wooden boat show and antique race boats once a year on the Lake. The event is so large that it now covers 2 weeks . Tavares is also know as America’s Sea Plane city and brings in a lot of Sea planes on the same Lake. You may want to send someone this year to cover the event. Did i mention you can also ride a steam locomotive while you are in the area. Come on down !!!!
