Remember the era when F1 cars turned the kinds of RPM that you were scared to mention out loud? While today’s cars are faster and more capable, packed with technology akin to that of a vehicle designed for space travel, they sound like UPS trucks. This 1990 Lotus F1 car with a Lamborghini V12 engine does not sound like a UPS truck. Instead it sounds like internal parts and pieces moving, opening, closing, and operating at speeds that are physically impossible to understand. Sure we can see the numbers on the page, we can see the numbers on a tach but to “see” inside a running engine is mind boggling to us mere mortals.
We have no power numbers on this car or anything of that nature but sometimes it is just fun to sit and listen to a piece of mechanical artwork get put to use. We are and we’ll always be V8 guys but when there’s lots of awesome stuff in the world to appreciate and take in. As it so happens, this near 30 year old F1 car is one of them.
