Collecting Cars: Paul Kelly’s Huge Wreck In The Australian GT Series At Adelaide

If you’re going to wreck during the middle of a race, wreck outside of the traffic line, because nothing is worse than ricocheting back into fast-moving traffic. Any NASCAR driver who has been involved in a “big one” can tell you that, and Austrailan GT racer Paul Kelly can attest to it too after being the catalyst for this huge wreck at Adelaide over the weekend. At the start of Race 3 of the series, Kelly was third in the pack when the green flag dropped. Coming into a chicane, Kelly’s Ferrari 458 GT3 stepped out of line and made a beeline for the tire barrier, which was a bad enough.

But when the Ferrari bounced back into traffic, he proceeded to collect up a who’s who list of expensive racers: a McLaren 650S GT3, a Porsche GT3 Cup, two Audi R8 Ultras, a Porsche 997 GT3-R and a Ginetta G55 GT3. All drivers were able to walk away from the accident, which ended up mangling over a million dollar’s worth of supercar parts.

my home town!! Not a huge fan of V8 supercars but you gotta love the support races….my faves are muscle car masters ( do a youtube search if you’ve not seen this, you’ll be occupied for the next week..) and when they ran them, the HQ series… a tightly regimented series of early 70’s Holden sedans with 6 cyls and 3 speed manuals.. I know, sounds boring but nothing could be further from the truth…. I love the GT series too, and the Pooches to a degree, just to see them crash…. not quite but meh, they’re not my cuppa…
