Accidental Tourist Gallery: Running Into Some Awesome Random Cruise Night Action In Daytona Beach

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – On a recent trip to the Daytona area we drive down Nova Road which isn’t particularly remarkable itself and isn’t necessarily fun to drive on (about like any other major avenue).  As we traversed the road the first time we saw some cars gathering in a parking lot in the mid-afternoon.  On the way back it was early evening and the place was packed with awesome rides, but we had already been out longer than we wanted and were in the wrong lane to have a go at it anyway.  Further down the road we saw a sign that looked like it said ‘Hot Rods’.  That we checked out on the interwebs when we got back to the where we were staying.

That’s how we found out about Hanksters and what it was all about.  Check…we will try to stop in there the next time we pass by.  Didn’t have a clue what was happening at the other place, but hoped we could find it again and investigate.  The next morning we had tickets (graciously given to me by a friend) for a full-access tour of the Daytona Speedway.  Perhaps more on that in another article….maybe.  So we get done with the tour and my blood sugar is dropping like a rock so we figure we’ll find some grub on the way back and Hanksters is on the way…  We see a sign that says ‘Giuseppe’s’ and ‘Pizza’….Sold..!!!  We pull in and there alone in the parking lot is a massive by huge Lincoln begging us to look it over and take photos.  We notice the sign to the place says ‘As seen on the Velocity Channel’.  We don’t have Velocity.  Why…?  Because we haven’t updated our satellite TV plan in forever.  We also took photos of a VW bus being flat-towed taking a rest.  Entering the establishment we see one half of this place is decorated all in Pittsburgh Steelers stuff while the other half is all car memorabilia.  Hmmm.  We order pizza and liquid refreshment then get to searching on our phones for more details.  Sure enough…this is one happening place for the car scene with regular cruises and shows.  The pizza….was amazing.  Quite possibly some of the best I have ever eaten. A repeat visit will be mandatory.

From the previous article you know we ended up at Hanksters and wandered around there for a couple hours.  Time came for us to go but there was a problem….it was cruise night at Hanksters!  Since I still had some battery life left let’s get to clicking.  Out of all the cool iron there we really liked the satin black Pacer with the steelies and late Hemi power.  Tasteful and off the beaten path.  As we were heading to the car….in rolled more and among this group was ANOTHER PACER….!!!  For a regular cruise night to have two Pacers show up….just wow.  Now we had really been out too long and felt the need to leave before another Pacer showed up leading to the end of all life on Earth.
