Duck And Cover! This Sprint Car Wreck Results In A New World Height Record For Chucking A Wing!

(By Jason Mazzotta) – Everyone involved in racing knows that is can be very dangerous for the drivers and crew but a lot of the time people sitting in the stands forget that they are part of the risk as well. Just because there is a fence in front of you, invincibility is not part of the program. We have seen some of the wildest stuff happen on some of the biggest racing stages over the years from Daytona, to the Winternationals in Pomona, California. The best part of this video? No people were hurt but some nutty stuff happens and it is a good reminder of how fast things can go down and the potential of the cars and parts to “leave the ballyard” when pushed to the edge.

The video takes us to the dirt track called Grandview Speedway in Pennsylvania for some dirt sprint car action. The big power, short wheelbase, flying dirt, and aggressive manor of the drivers make it an exciting style of racing.

As the two cars fly into turn one they get together and a classic sprint car wreck ensues, where physics takes advantage of the short wheelbase of the cars, sending each flipping end over end, losing parts off the cars as the flipping continues, eventually sending the huge wing high into the trees behind the wall in turn 1, making for a spectacular scene, and luckily not a tragic ending for a nearby fan. The guys up in the tree trying to get the wing down after the wreck make for a pretty interesting scene! If this had happened by the stands it could have been a different story.
