UPDATE: Fox Reports Jimmy Johnson Wins 2014 Daytona 500 After Running 2013 Daytona 500 Replay On Own Network — ESPN Botches It As Well!

We have made some boneheaded mistakes here at BangShift over the years but this literally beats all. Fox is the network carrying the 2014 Daytona 500 and due to the fact that it rained all day, they re-ran the broadcast of the 2013 race, which Jimmy Johnson won. Well, this confused lots of people including Fox themselves who were first to hit twitter that Jimmy Johnson had won the 2014 Daytona 500! This came as a great surprise to the fans huddling in bathrooms due to tornado warnings, other drivers, and Johnson himself. Wow. We’re guessing that someone has been thrown out of the press room on their backside, or that some network official will be missing a coffee chaser intern in the morning. Talk about a screw up of major proportions.

The first screen shot was sent to us by Bret Kepner via Facebook and the ones following were grabbed from the Twitter feeds of various drivers.

Bahahahahaha. A sad statement of our news agencies. Always so worried about beating the competition to get the story out, no one bothered to checks facts anymore.

I was watching it and when the rain started i went outside to shovel snow. I came back in and they were racing, took a little while to notice the “Last year’s race” scrolling across the bottom.

I think in future they should play vintage Nascar races to avoid confusion… or add more hilarity when they announce Fonty Flock winning,

I’m sure the 12 pack didn’t hell matters..
FYI this wasn’t a mistake. this was a planned test, to see just how easy it is for the media to mislead people and it to become true.. something they have been say’n for years..

Fox network is a joke of immense proportions……they should stay out of NASCAR and stick to football. They should also bring back speed channel ,,,,,does anyone really watch all that crap on fox sports2. .??????
