Here’s a Curious, Sharp-Looking Javelin For Sale In AMC Racing Livery

Here’s a Curious, Sharp-Looking Javelin For Sale In AMC Racing Livery

While American Motors Corporation is perhaps best-known in the general populace as company that built the oddly proportioned Pacer and Gremlin, AMC also produced a few iconic muscle cars. The two-seat AMX remains a popular and pretty cost-effective way to get muscle, but the Javelin is as close to a ‘69 Charger as AMC is likely to get. The Javelin’s claim to fame was its success in Trans-Am racing at the hands of Mark Donohue (and others) with the lowered Javelin looking particularly burly in race trim. This ‘69 Javelin SST on CraigsList in Oklahoma pays homage to that racing legacy, but we’re a little curious at what this car is.

The ad lists it as a “Javelin SST/Donohue TA,” which is a strange combination of monikers. From the ducktail spoiler design, it does appear to be a Mark Donohue Edition, which was essentially an optioned-out Javelin SST offered only in 1969 and 1970. There’s no photo of the rear, though, where there should be a decal of Donohue’s signature on the right side. The model year generally looks right, though the three-color racing livery was only offered from the factory in the Javelin T/A models. And the ram-air hood was common to both the Donohue and the T/A so this one has a non-standard hood.

The addition of the “TA” moniker in the line is a bit strange, however. AMC built 100 Javelin T/A edition cars in 1969 and 1970, though those came exclusively with manual transmission and a rear wing instead of the spoiler. That said, dealerships that were unable to move the T/A cars in some cases had them repainted to a standard color palette. Though it seems unlikely any of them were dealer-swapped to an automatic transmission—and therefore that this is a real Javelin T/A—the world of AMC can be a strange one and I wouldn’t rule out any possibilities. I would, however, want a bit more information on the car if I were interested in taking a bite at it for the $35,000 price tag, but dang if I wouldn’t look good moderately attractive driving this thing.

It could be called The Fluff On Donald Trump’s Jock Strap Edition Javelin T/A for all I care – stop splitting hairs and worship at the shrine of AMC’s coolest ever car….

That’s because it’s none of the above. Both the Trans Am and the Mark Donohue Javelins were 1970 *only*. This car is simply a 69 SST with a TA paint job and hacked up MD spoiler glued on.

You have to laugh at how clueless a person is not even knowing what type of car he is selling! I instalked a Donahue spoiler, whoopee!
