This Mustang Nosed LTD Packs A Blown Ford Small Block And A Mysterious History

This Mustang Nosed LTD Packs A Blown Ford Small Block And A Mysterious History

I wish like hell I could claim to be the guy who found this car but I can’t. That honor is bestowed upon Powermaster’s JR Richmond. He was surfing the high seas of Copart and when he saw this 1985 Ford LTD that has had a Fox Mustang nose swapped onto it, a blower and many other performance parts added to the engine, and a mysterious history that somehow led to the thing being left to be sold at a salvage yard. One of the more hackneyed things you’ll see people write about with shock and awe in their tone is how an LTD is a Fox platform car and that all of the stuff a Mustang uses can be put to work on said LTD. At this point EVERYONE knows this. EVERY-FREAKING-ONE. That’s why I’m not going to go down that road.

Someone took the time to build this thing, complete with a nice interior, a paint job, and all the stuff. The built up the engine with a blower, MSD ignition, and who knows what else, but then something happened. It wasn’t crashed, it wasn’t burned up, and it wasn’t gutted and half dismantled on the side of the road. There’s no evidence that someone was killed in it or otherwise maimed so perhaps it was taken from the owner? High speed run from the cops? Bank robbery get away car? What’s the story here?

No matter the reason for it to marooned in the junkyard, it sure is a neat piece and it would freak people out everywhere you went in it!

Pretty sure there was a write up on this build in Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords probably a dozen years ago. I don’t know if that would help with the history or not? I always had mixed emotions about it. The LTD LX was cool already, the GT snout on it is sort of cool and sort of weird.

I remember seeing something in at least one of the 5 liter mags from around that time period. The car was remarkably similar to this one, possibly even the same one. Maybe I can find it. .

It was on the top right of the cover of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords August 2003. Got that issue, but it’s currently in a storage unit 4 hours away. Can’t find anything else on it… yet.

Owner was listed as Ame Morgensen in the article. Can’t find anything else about him yet either.

I think at some point in time this car was built with a lot of love, but appears to have aged at least 10 years since. Perhaps it was part of someone’s collection and subsequently stolen, or the owner died.

Someone should run the VIN since it’s on the listing.

Weird how the Mustang body lines and the LTD fit together so closely. Was that as bolted up, or did he have to do a bit of metalwork?

The fox body version Mustang is a Fairmont/LTD chassis. Not until 2005 did it ever have it’s own underpinnings. Started out as a Falcon/Comet, then Torino, Pinto, followed by the Farmont until ’05.

This was a mm&ff in 02. Feature in the first one i bought, still have it. at one point it was packing a 351 with a blower. Apparently swap back to a 302 at one point. It also came out of Nevada if I remember correctly

I remember the article in MM&FF as well. The owner/builder was a body man by trade and he wanted a more aeordynamic front clip on his 4 door Fox body.

Didn’t those LTDII’s come in a two door version as well? Would be cooler if it was a two door.

NOT an LTD II. It’s an LTD plain and simple. The LTD II was a boat in the Mid to late 70’s and a completely different car than these. As an LTD LX owner I will always correct people with this error. These were 4 door sedans and 4 door wagons only. However there are those that have been known to put the 83-86 LTD front clip on the 78-83 Fairmont Futura. The “Phantom Futura” is one of them.

This car is/was known in the LTD and LTD LX community. Last we heard it was still in Vegas. HOW it ended up at an auction house in Tx we have no clue. Scott Chamberlain (LTD LX wiz) and I had seen it at a Fabulous Fords Forever at knotts berry farm a bit back. The guys directing cars were really confused when they saw it head on. They saw a Mustang coming at them in line with the LTD guys and directed him off into the Mustang group…. We found it amusing.

its very possible that the car has nothing wrong with it- it could be a cancer donation car or even belong to a licensed rebuilder- its not uncommon for there to be several cars on sale day to be clean unbranded cars with no issues offered for sale
