(Photos by Bob Chiluk) – I’m not sure if I should thank Bob Chiluk for these great photos from the recent Optima Search For The Ultimate Street Car event in Michigan or if I should offer him counseling. After all, he spent days rooming with Chad (which I have done and my sense of smell is still not the same), he saw behind the scenes of the television production (how sausage is made), and he probably had to listen to Chad’s jokes as well. Those three things alone qualify him for some special dispensation from the Pope, but I digress. Between all of the other stuff, Bob managed to blast off a great gallery of photos that show some of the neat technical details from the cars and trucks competing as well as the tire melting action.

Some of the coolest photos (to me anyway) are of the trucks, especially the one of the bed above. Why? Because they fabrication work is on full display right there. The bottom line is that if you want to show up and win one of these things you better be bringing the heat and by the heat we mean a serious hunk of pro touring iron. That being said, the goal of the whole deal is to have fun pounding on your car. You’ll see stuff that ranges from mildly modified to complete full tilt builds and that is the glory of the whole series. Show up and have fun. You don’t NEED some piece of heavy iron to have fun. You just need to have the right attitude and the right mindset to show up and not only make yourself better but make your car better by working on your setup.
